Visionary Learning
Finding Your Starting Point
Vision, Mission & Curriculum Connections
A strong school does not begin with a curriculum. It begins with a clear understanding of why we educate, what we value, and what we want our learners to become.
A clear mission and vision provide direction. They create a shared foundation for decisions about learning, teaching, assessment and school development. When they are understood and owned by the whole team, they become more than statements on paper they become a guide for everyday practice.
In this workshop, EduTWIns brings educational teams together to find that starting point and shape it into a shared direction.
Through reflection, collaboration and practical activities, participants explore their own experiences, beliefs and values in education.
Using Van den Akker’s Curriculum Spider Web, they make connections between their vision and the different elements of educational practice, including learning goals, learning activities, teacher roles, assessment and the learning environment.
The workshop moves from looking back and exploring values to creating a shared vision for the future. Teams identify the values that matter most to them and translate these into concrete vision statements that can guide their educational practice.
What will participants learn?
Participants will:
- reflect on their own experiences, beliefs and perspectives on education;
- explore what they value in learning and what they want for their learners;
- understand how vision connects to the different elements of curriculum and educational practice;
- identify shared values and priorities within their team;
- translate these values into clear and meaningful vision statements;
- connect their emerging vision to everyday teaching and learning;
- consider their own role and contribution to the school's future direction.
What is the outcome?
The team leaves with a shared starting point for its school vision, including identified core values, key vision statements and personal commitments.
More importantly, the team has experienced the process of building a vision together. This creates shared understanding, ownership and a stronger connection between what the school believes, what it aims for and what happens in practice.
'From reflection to shared direction.
From vision to practice.'
