Equal Participation in the classroom
In Ghana, teachers traditionally play the role of lecturer, transferring knowledge from the front of the classroom to the students. Co-teaching brings about a valuable change in this regard. By consciously taking on the roles of coach and reflective guide, there is more equal participation and simultaneous action in the classroom.
With Spencer Kagan's cooperative structures, pupils are no longer passive recipients, but active participants. Each pupil is given a task, a voice and a role. This increases learning efficiency and ties in nicely with Ghana's ambition to make education more active, inclusive and future-oriented.

Collaboration for child-centred education
In Atebubu, we work together with Atecoe, the Teachers' Training College, to strengthen sustainable educational development. Through this collaboration, we focus on knowledge sharing and supporting future teachers.
Student exchange with Thomas More
The Thomas More University College in Belgium is a partner in the exchange programme between Belgian and Ghanaian students. By learning together and discovering each other's educational practices, students grow into teachers who think openly, reflectively and child-centredly.
Edutwins as a connecting link
Edutwins connects Atecoe and Thomas More. We work together to make education more child-centred, step by step, through collaboration, dialogue and shared practical experience.

Start at the three pilot schools
At the three pilot schools — Heritage, Boabeng Public School and Nkoranza Model School — we worked with the teachers to review their teaching practices.
Greater insight thanks to Van den Akker's spider web
With the help of Van den Akker's spider web, the teachers gained a clear picture of how all aspects of education are interconnected: from goals and content to materials, time, space and assessment.
They discovered that strong education is created when all these elements are consciously incorporated into teaching and reinforce each other.
Awareness as the first step
This first phase provided teachers with greater insight, reflection and awareness. They saw more clearly how their choices in the classroom influence the whole — an important basis for further development towards child-centred education.

Tree of Hope project
EduTWIns has raised money for Graceland Community, an organisation we support in Ghana. It makes a difference for disadvantaged children in the community by ensuring that they too can benefit from education and develop into promising adults.
With this tree planting project:
- we are making a positive impact on the environment
- we are supporting the disadvantaged children of Graceland Community
Work has already started on the first building for Graceland Community, turning last year's dream into reality. This building will soon become a safe haven where children can live, learn and build a future full of possibilities. The contributions of Ellen Waijers, Dagmar Eskens and Arno Sleegers are helping us to achieve this and keep hope alive!

End of the school year Boabeng Public School
This year in Boabeng, we have once again demonstrated what is possible when people open their hearts to one another. Thanks to support from the Netherlands, we were able to provide 12 children with backpacks filled with school supplies, shoes, and drinking cups. Everything they need to attend school without worry and build their future with confidence.
We are also proud to have donated nine laptops to the public school. These laptops were donated by Hubertus Primary School in Tilburg, via Frank van den Oetelaar. Although there is no Wi-Fi yet, we have opened the first door to the digital world. For many pupils, this is their very first introduction to computers – a journey of discovery that will greatly broaden their horizons. The campaign was set up by EduTWIns and made possible by donations from the Netherlands, including those from TSO Pendula, Tilburg.
Together, we have made a difference. And that will continue.

Right vs Opportunities in education
With a delegation from Boabeng, we travelled deeper into the hinterland. Here, there are many small communities that still live in isolation. Places where clean drinking water and electricity are still difficult to access and where education is not possible due to the distance to schools.
How special that Petra was able to accompany this group of people, a group that cares about the fate of these children. The aim was to investigate how we can increase educational opportunities and how these communities view a foster project in Boabeng, where these children can be housed and receive education. A proactive attitude, solidarity and love and equality for every child.
Where dreams were born, possibilities are now being explored in the here and now. And for EduTWIns, too, we see opportunities to be there not only for the children in Boabeng, but perhaps also for these children, the forgotten children.

Necessary repairs & furniture
Six weeks, they have flown by. So much done! The school painted inside and out. Renovations carried out where needed. All broken windows have been replaced and the classroom doors have been reset so that they can open and close again. Had tables and chairs made again, this time for the other classes of the primary school and the first classes of Junior High School. And notebooks and pens have been distributed again, so the students can continue with their school work.
It's goodbye again to my friends in Ghana, see you soon.

Education for each child
FutureMakers has provided a cool library with 450 books. Right now, 2 out of the 4 buildings have electricity. The foundation also gave the primary school 8 desks and chairs, so the kids have a nice place to learn. Plus, they handed out school uniforms, shoes, bags, notebooks, pencils, and math stuff for the junior high students. On top of that, they brought in five laptops and a projector for everyone in the community to use.

Basic needs
In 2023, we kicked off our first big project to make the local school a better place. We put in water and electricity, and fixed up the toilets so the kids have a clean, comfy spot. We also made little stools just for the preschoolers, so they don’t have to drag their own from home and can join in all the activities easily. All these upgrades show how much we care about giving the kids a safe and welcoming place to learn.
